Gordon M Smith
Lead Airport Chaplain - Director

Gordon Smith is the Lead Chaplain at Calgary Int'l Airport YYC and as CEO of Aviation Interfaith Ministry leads a society set up for the Care and Support of the Aviation Community. Gordon stepped by faith into Chaplaincy over twenty-nine years ago. In 2006, he completed a two-year course on leadership through the PACE program at Alberta Bible College. Leading a ministry of Chaplaincy at YYC, Gordon is developing a Crisis Care Team that will respond in case of an air disaster. He is also involved in the Rapid Response Team (RRT) with the Billy Graham Association, Victim Chaplaincy, and is also Certified Chaplain with the International Federation of Christian Chaplains. Gordon is happily married for 40 years and has 4 children and 6 grandchildren. He also serves as Chairman of Westbourne Baptist Church, Chairman of Westbourne Baptist Benevolent Association, and is on the board of Global Impact Ministry. Gordon's passion is to be involved in spiritual growth; exhortation is his spiritual gift. Accepting the gift of grace (given), he recognizes that Jesus Christ has equipped him for the ministry of reconciliation. Gordon is actively involved in kingdom ministry.
Elaine Cameron
Elaine Cameron
Elaine is a Teacher's Assistant in the Special Education Department in the Calgary area High Schools. She has worked at hospitals, including the Rocky View General Hospital, as a Chaplain in their Pastoral Care Capacity. Elaine has been an active member of her church for many years. She has held a variety of positions including: Ladies Ministry, Christian Education Coordinator, Evangelist (licensed), and many other volunteer services. Elaine has her Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and Ministry. "Most of all I love the Lord with all my heart. 'Where He leads I will go, for I am learning to trust Him so.'" Elaine can be found in the Chapel each Sunday morning where she leads a worship service for anyone, travelers or staff who ever is interested in joining her.

Rev. Garth Knapp, Chaplain
The Lord called me into ministry at the Full Gospel Church in Calgary on October 17, 1971. It is a real joy to serve, and now I find myself in the role of mentor and leading individuals, teaching pastors, and teaching at Bible colleges and church conferences. I am married to Myrna and we have twins; one daughter and family lives in Lacombe, and a son and family who reside in Okotoks.
Since commencing ministry in Calgary, Garth and Myrna have spent 4 1/2 years in ministry in Banff, 14 1/2 years in Victoria, BC, 5 years back in Calgary, and on September 10, 2000, he commenced International Ministry in various countries in the world.

Dr. Richard Horner, Chaplain
Dr. Richard Horner comes to the Aviation Chaplaincy with a diversified background as a Biā€Vocational and Bible Based Minister.
His educational studies have included Industrial Engineering, Economics, Psychology and Theology, culminating with a Ph.D. and honorary Doctorate for Excellence in Pastoral Care, D.D.
As a mentor, coach, and counselor in the area of people development and leadership, Richard is always ready to give a hand up to those who are in need. Here at the Calgary Airport, with its busy travelers coming and going every day and many employees making the YYC operate smoothly, there are a number of opportunities to serve.
Richard plans to intentionally focus on assisting each one he encounters with Care Compassion and Concern.

Elaine Horner, Chaplain
Elaine Horner comes to the Aviation Chaplaincy with a background in Nursing, Business, and Pastoral Care. She is also a mother of three adult daughters and five grandchildren. As a Pastor's wife she has had the privilege of providing mentorship, knowledge, and encouragement to those who so desperately wanted and needed to make a change in the direction they were going.
Working beside her husband for the past 50 years, they both have a huge heart to help people.
Elaine believes there is nothing more inspiring than encouraging others, watching them grow, and helping them take the next step on their journey. When one has been blessed in so many ways there is no reason not to "Pay It Forward". Regardless of where we are on our own personal walk we can always stop, have a listening ear, and give a hand up to those that we meet.
Aviation Chaplaincy is an excellent opportunity for Elaine to share her gifts. Seeking the direction of God to serve the busy travellers and employees at YYC.

Phil Jones, Chaplain - Director
Phil is married with four grown up children and seven grandchildren. He has a heart for the nations and has been in ministry for over 40 years in the UK and Canada, as well as traveling extensively overseas. Serving as a chaplain in the Global Gateway of the airport gives Phil opportunity to engage with people of many nations as they work or visit Calgary and Canada. He has a heart to see people come to true freedom, discovering their true identity, vision and destiny. As well as volunteering at the airport Phil is also a spiritual advisor involved with prayer, reconciliation, mentoring, and developing leadership."
Dau Dau, Chaplain
Dau was born in Sudan and moved to Canada in 2004. Dau comes to us bringing experience working as a hospital and prison chaplain, radio announcer, and in various other areas.
Dau is passionate about serving the community-at-large and is excited to serve the aviation community.
He says, "I am so glad to be part of this chaplaincy because I believe this is what I am called to do, and I look forward to meeting people in this community and to assist with caring to anyone in need."
Teofy Buluran
Teofy Buluran, Chaplain
Teofy Buluran was born in the Philippines and moved to Canada in 1984. Teofy comes to us bringing experience working with the homeless, addictions, religious studies, emergency disaster, spiritual care, effective life skills and many other areas.
Teofy is passionate about serving the community-at-large evidenced by her involvement in various organizations around Calgary and is excited to serve in the aviation community.
She says, "I am so grateful that I now join the Aviation Interfaith Ministry where there is a wonderful opportunity to share the love of God to everyone who comes from different parts of the world, to embrace the rich diversity on our community, to affirm the presence of God in the world and His Concern for every aspect of human life."

Jane Cain, Administration
Jane provides administrative support to the Chapel. She began volunteering with the Aviation Interfaith Ministry (Calgary) Society in 2014, and sensed a calling to return to the Chapel office in May 2016.

Jane attended Capernwray Bible School in Carnforth, UK; recently obtained an Executive Assistant certificate from Bow Valley College; and studied Office Technology at Medicine Hat College. She enjoys administrative work, bookkeeping, and interacting with people. She is passionate about Bible study, Darjeeling tea, and chocolate! Her other passions are her husband (Blair) and their two grown sons (Joel and Aaron). She says, "It is with joy that I partner with the Aviation Interfaith Ministry in providing care and support for passengers and all members of the aviation community."


Glenn McConnell, President

Glenn has had a lifelong passion for the Aviation Industry. He has worked for almost 30 years at all of the major airlines in Avionics, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, and Information Technology. Being in the Aviation Industry, he soon heard of the Aviation Interfaith Ministry, and has been involved in some capacity. It wasn't until 7 years ago that he felt God calling him to be a part of the Board of Directors for the ministry. Glenn desires to be instrumental in the ministry expanding at the airport, where people from all nations, may hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and see it in action as we strive to help, nurture, love, and care for airport staff and travellers alike. The Lord has given us an incredible opportunity here at the Calgary Airport to minister to others and share the message of Jesus.

Bernard Sennyah, Vice President

Bernard was born in Malaysia and migrated to Canada. He has a Science degree and a Pilot's Licence. He has worked as a pilot in various parts of the world. Presently, he works for the Canadian government as a Civil Aviation Inspector. He has always been in the healing ministry where Jesus Christ is the Physician. His lovely wife, Sheila, is a Gynecologist and is also a born again Christian."

Jake Baerg, Director

Jake grew up on a farm in southern Alberta. At age 7, he invited Christ into his life and experienced a life altering transition. He was really keen knowing and understanding GOD and how this would apply to his life time goals.
His Motto; Always pursue the positive to potentially maximize circumstances for the good of mankind, honoring Almighty God. Jake spent two summers and a winter at Pioneer Ranch Camps at Rocky Mountain House and Sundre Alberta as counsellor and ranching staff. He was married 1963 and started a career in interior design and manufacturing business. During this time he was involved as a charter member starting Foothills Alliance church, where he served in many leadership capacities, as an elder, in Sunday school leadership, and for many years in developing the facilities of the church camp as a counsellor, director, maintenance and most recently producing the historical story of, "Camp Chamisall at Waiparus Valley".
His interest in the air port ministry is somewhat due to so many family members being involved in the flying industry. A son who is a captain with West Jet, a brother who was the manager of the engine engineering dept. with Air Canada, a nephew who is with Maf, and was the manager of aircraft maintenance department in Africa and Australia.
